Easy To Follow Puppy House Training Schedule
So you got your new puppy and now you need some tips to house train. Well you’ve come to the right place! The most effective tool for this type of training is to follow a puppy house training schedule. It helped me a ton when I raised my first puppy and it will help you to get on your way fast and easy.
Why Make A Schedule?
Some type of routine or schedule will minimize accidents (potty in the house). You must teach them early and be consistent. The greater the number of accidents the longer it will take for the pup to be housebroken.
Activities For Your Puppy House Training Schedule
Well puppies are just like babies and are predictable and develop their own routine. A few instances to pay attention to when house training your puppy
- When he gets up in the morning.
- After he eats.
- After a nap.
- After he plays or exercises for more than a few minutes.
- Before he goes to sleep at night.
Schedule these house training activities as best you can based on the puppy’s habits and your choices for feeding times. You may also choose to schedule other activities such as short intervals of obedience training and taking the dog for a walk.
A young dog under 16 weeks will need to go out more often and especially during the night. You may need to take them out every few hours during the night. But as he/she gets older it will become less and less.
If you’re not home regularly because of work or whatever reason and choose to get a puppy, this easy to follow puppy house training schedule is great because you will need to crate the dog during the day. A word of caution – it is impossible for a young dog under 16 weeks to make it all day without a “potty break.” If you work, accommodations should be made to take the pup outside midday for elimination and exercise.
This is the puppy house training schedule that I used when I raised my puppy. You can substitute certain activities or times to meet your needs. Obviously the main theme here is take your puppy outside as much as possible…
*(if you click on the schedule you will be able to view it and right click to save it to your computer and print it out for yourself)
